CODA stars Emilia Jones as Ruby Rossi, a Massachusetts teenager with deaf parents and a deaf brother. Eugenio Derbez co-stars as Bernardo “Mr. V” Villalobos, a choir teacher who believes that the protagonist could be accepted at his alma mater, the Berklee College of Music. The storyline explores Ruby’s attempts to better understand herself and the closest people in her life. Composer Marius de Vries (Romeo + Juliet) scored the 111-minute film; music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas (Mad Men) assembled the featured needle-drops. CODA Soundtrack: Every Song in the 2021 Apple TV+ Movie

• “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” by Etta James (00:01:00): The CODA soundtrack song plays during an opening fishing sequence. Ruby sings while working with her family members. The track picks up at 00:05:00 as the teenage protagonist arrives at Gloucester High School.
• “I’m a Hustla” by Black Oshin (00:07:00): Frank (Troy Kotsur) and Jackie (Marlee Matlin) arrive at Gloucester High School in a truck. Various students laugh because of the volume and genre of music. Ruby later reveals that her father likes gangster rap music because he can hear the bass.
• “Baby It’s True” by Soul Exotics (00:09:00): Ruby studies at home. She wears ear pods to avoid the noise of her parents working. Jackie says, “Take those off. It’s rude.”
• “My Pal Foot Foot” by The Shaggs (00:21:00): Ruby hangs out with her friend Gertie (Amy Forsyth). She plays the CODA soundtrack song on a record and dances in her bedroom. Miles (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) later states that he likes The Shaggs.
• “Let’s Get It On” by Emilia Jones, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo & CODA Vocal Ensemble (00:22:00): Choir students rehearse the Marvin Gaye classic. Bernardo aka Mr. V (Eugenio Derbez) asks for more energy. The song drops as the teacher compares his listening experience to a funeral.
• “You’re All I Need to Get By” by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell (00:25:00): Ruby prepares for a duet with Miles. They later rehearse the track at 00:30:00. “You’re All I Need to Get By” is also featured at 00:41:00, 01:26:00 and 01:31:00.
• “It’s Your Thing” by Emilia Jones, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo & CODA Vocal Ensemble (00:28:00): Ruby and her choir colleagues rehearse The Isley Brothers hit. Mr. V dances with a tambourine. The CODA soundtrack song drops during a transition sequence.
• “The Man Who Built America” by Horslips (00:36:00): Leo (Daniel Durant) hangs out with co-workers at a bar. Someone bumps into him and spills a beer. Leo attacks the man after being called a “freak.”
• “You Put the Spice in My Life” by Dale Chafin (00:37:00): A bartender asks Leo if he needs ice for his eye. The music plays inside the establishment. Gertie starts a conversation with Leo in ASL (American Sign Language).
• “Both Sides Now” by Emilia Jones (00:47:00): Ruby rehearses the CODA soundtrack song. Mr. V. urges her to “breathe” while singing. Ruby later performs the tune at 01:38:00.
• “I Fought the Law” by The Clash (00:54:00): Ruby wakes up at 3 a.m. She plays the track on her stereo. Ruby gets dressed for work and wakes up her father.
• “I’ve Got the Music in Me” by Emilia Jones, Ferdia Walsh-Peelo & CODA Vocal Ensemble (01:23:00): The Gloucester High School fall concert begins. Ruby and her colleagues sing the Kiki Dee song. Leo signs “She’s good” to his parents.
