Sunny stars Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American widow living in Kyoto, Japan. Hidetoshi Nishijima co-stars as Masa Sakamoto, the protagonist’s mysterious husband who disappears after a plane crash. The storyline follow Suzie as she learns about Kyoto’s dark underworld while communicating with a customized robot. Composer Daniel Hart (The Old Man & the Gun) scored the Apple TV+ series; music supervisor Matt Biffa (Hacks) handled the featured needle-drops. In addition, Mari Atsumi recorded the theme music, “Sukiyo Aishite.”  Here’s every song in Sunny, an adaptation of Colin O’Sullivan’s 2018 novel The Dark Manual.

  • Hitori Bocchi No Futari” by Kyu Sakamoto (00:23): Suzie visits a bar. The Sunny soundtrack song plays from the speaker system. Suzie meets Mixxy (Annie the Clumsy) for the first time.
  • The Great Pretender” by The Platters (00:26): A bar sequence continues. Mixxy inquires about Suzie’s background. The characters both identify the track as their “favorite song.”
  • Happy Birthday to You” by Traditional (00:32): The tune is featured during an interior scene. Suzie watches home video footage. She celebrates her son’s birthday in the clip.
  • Blue Blue Day” by Don Gibson (00:33): The Sunny music scores the episode’s end credits.
