Hamnet stars Jessie Buckley as Agnes, a naturalist in 16th century Stratford, England. Paul Mescal co-stars as Will (Shakespeare), a latin tutor and playwright. The storyline follows the main protagonists as they clash and bond after their son’s sudden death. Composer Max Richter (Arrival) scored the 125-minute film; a music supervisor isn’t credited. The song is featured again during the film’s end credits at 02:01:00.
- “On the Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter Orchestra and Lorenz Dangel (01:54:00): Agnes attends the first live performance of Hamlet. She stands next to her brother, Bartholomew (Joe Alwyn). Agnes reaches out and connects with the lead actor. The Hamnet soundtrack song sets in as various crowd members also reach out, literally and figuratively. Will observes the scene from afar. He makes eye contact with Agnes in a moment of realization for both. The couple’s late son, Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe), appears to his grieving mother. Agnes reaches an epiphany while processing numerous emotions. She smiles and acknowledges the presence of her son’s spirit. The Hamnet music scores the film’s final moments as Agnes experiences a moment of joy and hope for the future while thinking about the past.
