Mixtape stars Gemma Brooke Allen as a Spokane, Washington adolescent named Beverly Moody. Julie Bowen portrays the protagonist’s grandmother, Gail, while Nick Thune co-stars as a record store owner known as Anti. Set in 1999, the film explores Beverly’s attempts to learn the true meaning of a love-themed mixtape during the Christmas season. Composer Tamar-kali (Mudbound) scored the Netflix dramedy; music supervisor Morgan Rhodes (Dear White People) selected the classic rock needle drops. Here’s every song in Mixtape.

Mixtape Soundtrack: Every Song in the 2021 Netflix Movie

• “I Love You Always Forever” by Donna Lewis (00:00:00): The Mixtape soundtrack song scores the opening sequence. A graphic establishes the setting as 1999 Spokane, Washington. The protagonist Beverly gazes through her bedroom window at a fireworks display.
• “Smile” by Vitamin C (00:03:00): Gail drops Beverly off at school. Various students cheer for the wildcat to be the new mascot. The lyric “Put a smile on your face” complements a visual of a grumpy Beverly.
• “I Got a Right” by Iggy and the Stooges (00:08:00): Beverly listens to a “Love Riot” mixtape. The tape quickly gets tangled. Beverly reads track names from the insert card. “I Got a Right” plays again at 00:26:00 and 00:27:00.
• “When I Hear My Name” by The White Stripes (00:10:00): The Mixtape soundtrack song plays during a record store sequence.
• “Getting Nowhere Fast” by Girls At Our Best (00:14:00): Beverly receives her customized mixtape. She smiles and wears headphones at James K. Polk Middle School. The music fades as Beverly giddily waves to classmates.
• “Linda Linda” by The Blue Hearts (00:17:00): Beverly listens to a new tape. She sits alone while having lunch at school. The protagonist investigates the Japanese lyrics. Anti briefly speaks with Beverly.

• “Surrender” by Cheap Trick (00:37:00): Beverly leaves home and disobeys her grandmother’s orders. She runs over to the home of Nicky (Olga Petsa). The Mixtape soundtrack song continues as the characters discuss music, family and fashion.
• “Teacher’s Pet” by The Quick (00:37:00): Nicky plays musical instruments with Beverly and Ellen (Audrey Hsieh). The music cuts and reveals the actual sound made by the three characters. “Teacher’s Pet” plays again at 00:50:00.
• “I Want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow (00:40:00): Gails lets Beverly pick any clothing items that she wants. The Mixtape soundtrack song accompanies a shopping sequence. The music fades when Beverly isn’t allowed to buy a Spawn t-shirt.
• “More Than This” by Roxy Music (00:47:00): Nicky plays the song at Greenwood Cemetery. She swings “to heaven” with Beverly and Ellen. The girls bond and enjoy their outdoor adventure.
